Instead it is the Republic of China (which is Taiwan and a few islands) itself that objected to the name Taiwan since it for one does not reflect the entire country, but more importantly because accepting that name would go against their claim over the whole of China. They themselves chose the designation Chinese Taipei rather than Taiwan after being rejected as the Republic of China.
