Perhaps, but if you can get the job, take the job. The bigger problem would be for the Marlins in that no one would ever let the team talk to anyone. It is a matter of professional courtesy in expectation of a return. Someday, you may need to ask that team to talk to one of their guys. If you shut them out, there is no way they will let you.

Arguing basic decency in connection with the Olympic Stadium hatchet man is kinda superfluous. Especially when they've been barking at Slobbering Ozzie and expecting the White Sox to open a window for them to negotiate a deal with him, unfortunately for the rest of us in Macondo. But what's hypocrisy these days? It's political coin of the realm.

Yes, Jennings has a multi year contract. Yes, he's obligated to it. Yes, it's unreasonable of him to expect the common courtesy of a little slack from bottom feeders like Scrooge McLoria and the Chihuahua. But then, I haven't heard a peep out of Jennings himself about feeling unfairly treated by the Feesh, either. Chances are that if he's so highly regarded now, he'll be just as highly regarded if not moreso at the end of his deal. And my guess is that he'll dump the Feesh as if they'd been stinking up the dock for a week but say all sorts of nice things about his former employers while he savours not having to work for them anymore.

It will scare quality people away from working for the fish. In Toronto, AA has a policy of never saying no, if someone has a chance at a promotion elsewhere. He does not want to lose LaCava, but if he gets the job, he will be happy for him.

I doubt it. Getting a job in baseball is so hard that anyone who gets hired is just grateful for the chance, I'd imagine. But from an industry standpoint and from a standpoint of basic decency, it's pretty difficult to justify denying a qualified guy a chance to move up.

The Marlins seem to be the only team in baseball that won't let their personnel interview elsewhere to get a promotion. That has to be pretty bad for morale.
