I know the right wingers will blast you for it, but my brother was in Army Intelligence after spending years in the 82nd Airborne, served in both the initial invasion of Afganistan and did two tours in Iraq, and he pretty much says the same thing. When Bush was in charge it was about pacifying populations. If the bad guys dropped into your lap, great, but no real effort was made to hunt them down. They had intelligence on Osama's movements on a regular basis, but by the time any clearance could be gained to act on that intelligence, he was long gone(he said the typical lag was a week or more).

He is out of the military since 2007, however his friends still in have told him just how different the focus is now. Its not about nation building, its about getting those who would harm the US. The results of this are obvious to anyone paying attention. It is NOT coincidence that these terrorists and despots are falling. This is the result of a planned foreign strategy to take out those who would harm us. And that is a good thing. Building democracies is better handled via negotiation. Taking out dangerous targets is better handled via intervention or support of those who would do so.

Obama has been a pragmatist, and he is getting results due to that fact.

Um, the fact that NATO was the ONLY reason that this rebellion was successful, this win falls almost entirely on Obama and, dare I say it, France. The fairly swift NATO intervention was pushed by these two parties. How soon people forget his speech on the subject. Everything has now come to fruition w/o direct US military intervention. Sure, Obama didn't personally kill the loony dick, but without him leading the way, Libya would still be in a civil war and the rebels would be getting massacred. This is a win for the Libyan people and a win for the Obama administration (again).

The overall problem is that with the way our society in general is deteriorating we've forgotten to root for America to succeed in general. We are so hateful and jealous of eachother anymore that everyone has to pick a side and just blatantly hate the other side, no matter what. Because of my feelings on this type of issue I've always had a hard time picking one side or the other so maybe I can look at things with a little less bias. It just amazes me how easily we pick sides and totally root against the other even though sometimes the other side succeeding is to the benefit of us all in the long run. I don't care one way or the other about Obama but I always laughed reading comments from republicans 4 months after the guy was elected, screaming that he hadn't brought the country out of it's economic woes yet or that he hadn't ended all the wars yet. In the end, I'm glad to see another terrorist dictator get a bullet up his ass but I'm not so rediculously dumb as to believe that both the high level democratic and republican politicians won't be spending their days raping the little people as the "have's" keep lining their pockets. Your eother the hammer or the nail and 99.9999% of us are the nails, no matter who is in office.

Speaking from this side of the border, the guy's the best president you lot have had since I don't know how long. He's stuck in a quagmire of debt, wars, and political infighting of which he had nothing to do with creating. The fact that he continues to get the job done over seas, one way or another, probably has something to with listening to experts in military intelligence rather that oil reserve acquisition and pocket lining cronyism. There is no reason Bush couldn't have done this far more easily except for oil reserve acquisition and pocket lining cronyism. He had the money, no wars, and nearly no opposition after 911 to get bin Laden at least. The fact that your country has the beginnings of a pretty good universal healthcare system is another major step forward and, once again, something Bush could have done far easier. Boggles the hell out of me that anyone sees it any other way. By my guess Obama will not win re-election and you will have another Republican administration nearly identical to the Bush administration (many of the same faces will be back). Good luck when that happens.

While I agree about Bin Laden, and that is a huge achievement for the Obama administration. It sounds like the Lybians were the ones that found Qaddafi's body.

more interesting could be is the effects this could have on the middle east. In the past 9 years we've seen the fall of 4 very powerful muslim leaders. We legitimately could be in the middle of a changing tide that would bring about true "peace in the middle east"

A kid in Libya wearing Yankees merchandise is like a McDonald's in downtown Beijing. Each is an image of the power of American culture. But really, are the Yankees and McDonald's the images of American culture we want to project to the rest of the world?

Good call kopy - usually the guy who's the head of the US Army would get some props for these successes, but he isn't. If Bush was manning the Oval Office with bin Laden, Gadhafi, and the other heads of Al Qaeda that have gone down, so many more news outlets would be kissing his feet. For Obama, it's like he needs to heal the world before he gets any significant credit for anything.

Like I said, I didn't mean to open Pandora's box here and start something on HBT of all places, and for those who don't like Obama or whatnot, I respect that. No qualms here, really.

I just am glad that there's one awesome Yankee fan out there who, as awful as death is in any circumstance whatsoever, and as much as I could never jump for joy over it, still did help to rid the world of one less evil.
