MLB Network is launching a new show called “Clubhouse Confidential” that they say “aspires to serve as an open forum to discuss and debate the day’s news and moves using modern statistical research.”

In the past various mainstream attempts to integrate sabermetrics into the usual televised baseball talk has failed on multiple levels, but I’m actually somewhat optimistic in this case because they picked Brian Kenny to host the show and … well, he’s great.

Here’s a preview of the show, which starts November 7:

I was shocked when I saw Brian Kenney on the MLBN. He was so good at boxing on ESPN and no one will fill that void, but now he is doing baseball and couldn’t be happier about it.

I think it’ll do fine on MLB Network. Thats the network for this type of show. Totally different audience expectation that what watches ESPN I’d think.

MLBN has an edge up on intelligent opinions over ESPN, by far. Plus, Greg Amsinger is just awesome.

Let’s hope that it takes the place of Intentional Talk.

One of the many reasons I like MLBN; they’re innovative. The broadcasters are better (Plesac, Williams, Ripken > Kruk, Wells, et al), they’re more honest and less cliche in their opinions, and they’re consistently trying to improve. I can’t wait to see this show.
