That is, he could easily be what we like to call…dead. Whether or not he’ll be able to throw a baseball again should be among the last things on his mind right now. Time will come to think about that crap; but this holiday season this young man should simply be grateful that he’s here with the rest of us. The perspective he gains now on life, death, and the nano-instant of fortune that separates them may well make him a remarkably stable and poised force on the bump someday…but for now, he needs to dwell in that perspective and not let it go till he’s learned all he can from it. Then he can concern himself with career and money and all the other shit we worry ourselves sick about these days…
