Via the Iowa Cubs’ official Twitter feed, here’s Tony La Russa as a 26-year-old Triple-A infielder in 1971:

Yeah really. That line up card thing was classic CJ!

He looks scrappy. I bet he had huge platoon splits….I mean, he had to…right?

Probably, but as a career .199 hitter, who cared?

Greg: That is Paper’s way of not so subtely digging at TLR’s penchant for platooning players.

That must be the saddest smile I ever seen… and he looks nowhere near 26.

Point taken Clyde. Of course…if you watch his postgame interviews in this years playoffs you saw a great deal of smiling (while making incredibly bad jokes). In hindsite…it’s pretty obvious why. I mean…I even mentioned how well he handled the whole bullpen issue (for TLR anyway). He knew he was done and decided he was going to enjoy it.

Seriously, though, did you see the smile on his face when Craig caught that last out? I *loved* that shot they showed. He was like a kid at Christmas, grinning ear to ear
