Guys do say that, people just don’t tend to notice. Carpenter and Berkman each just signed extensions that are less than they could have gotten in FA. I’m sure there are plenty of examples throughout the league of guys that make such choices.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Better get used to it though; its all we have now for baseball. For the next 4 months this will have to do. Helpings of Rumor, Innuendo, Spite, Bile; Big ole’ cups o speculation and blatant fanboy enthusiasm, will serve as garnishing to our daily dishes of these from the greater press corps. We can probably count on Craig and the boys to keep the HBT stuff under 200 words, but this kind of link will be our bread and butter on a daily basis. Sad, really. How many days till spring training?

Somewhere, there’s a lonely, honest sportswriter who’s going to pen a piece called “Albert Pujols is going somewhere they’re going to back up a dump truck full of money to his house, and none of this other crap matters, but we can’t say that and we have column inches to fill.”

He will then, immediately, be fired, and his replacement will do 1200 words on how Red Hudler believes that if Pujols goes to Chicago, he’s not a true Cardinal.

LaRussa’s leaving may not have an impact on Pujols’ decision but who they hire could. It is entirely possible that the next manager could be there for the duration of Pujols’ career. I agree with Eckstein. If the Cardinals hire Oquendo it increases the odds that Pujols will stay. Not for a huge discount but at least for a reasonable contract that he might not accept otherwise.

When the Cardinals and the Brewers are in a race to the bottom of the division next year, while Houston wins 100 games, the powers that be at HBT and ESPN will eat their words. Because this post won’t engender much discussion on its own….I’ll take this opportunity to make some jerky comments.

I hope Nyjer Morgan and the rest of the Brewers enjoyed watching the Cardinals win the World Series. Alberta and the rest of the girls really enjoyed themselves, too bad you couldn’t make it.

I’m sure Jonny Gomes and the rest of the 2011 Reds (current and former) are very happy the Cardinals won. After all, “outside of the different uniforms they wear….[they] are all brothers”…and who doesn’t call their brothers “whiney little bitches” and celebrate their injuries? That is what brotherly love is all about (as far as I can tell, using citizens of the city of brotherly love as the paragon).
