Nick Markakis, who won his first Gold Glove award yesterday, told Brittany Ghiroli of that he’s about 75 percent recovered from a pelvic bone bruise suffered late in the season.

“I just felt my belt buckle go into my pelvic bone,” Markakis said. “And it knocked me pretty good, just repeatedly diving into it during the season.”

Markakis described the injury as like “a dagger in my stomach,” but added that he expects to be fully healthy in plenty of time for spring training and hopes it won’t impact his offseason training.

Markakis, who posted a sub-.800 OPS for the first time in his career at age 27, has three years and $44 million remaining on his contract.

This gold glove is wayyyyyy overdue.

I can recall watching a game with some fellows years ago and saying, “they should never wear metal belt buckles, but string sweat-pant ties or nothing around the waist…that metal is dangerous for an athlete.” Laughter filled the air and one guy who I worked with reminded me of the time I was caught at work without a tie on and had said something like, “it constricts blood flow to the brain.”

For all the intellect in the game of baseball, there is very little of intelligence. And yes, this is also true of the corporate sphere.
