Orioles claim reliever Darren O’Day off waivers from Rangers

Nov 2, 2011, 2:05 PM EDT

World Series Giants Rangers Baseball

Darren O’Day was a key part of the Rangers’ bullpen in 2010, but he missed most of this season following hip surgery and today the Orioles claimed him off waivers.

Even after coming back from surgery O’Day missed the end of the season with shoulder problems, so he’s certainly a big question mark health-wise.

However, he came into this season with a 2.63 ERA and 130/44 K/BB ratio in 164 career innings and the 29-year-old side-armer is definitely a worthwhile flier for the Orioles to take in the hopes of adding a solid right-handed relief option.

Not a bad pickup for a team that doesn’t even have a general manager.

When this dude is healthy he can be filthy. Maybe the Rangers know something the O’s don’t but I agree, sure worth a try.

Great, another retread. It seems like we feel guilty about the Bedard trade so we need to keep bringing in guys with durability problems. Last year’s big signing didn’t even see the field this year.

The Orioles continue their quest to become the All-Former-Rangers Team.

Any truth to the rumor he is going to be interim GM?
