Don't be surprised if Selig does get involved that Sox get a little better compensation then they otherwise would have. Remember this is the same Bud Selig that let the Red Sox Owner John Henry buy the Sox when he wasn't the highest bidder and also the same Bud Selig that appointed Ex Senator John Mitchell a member of the Red Sox Board of Directors to head Baseballs Drug Investigation a few years back. Don't be surprised at all.

The deal is done except for the compensation amount. The Bosox want the Cubs best pitcher, fat chance of that happening. Selig will probably set a money amount which the Sox can use to pay off a part of the Lackey contract. The Sox fans will remember Theo more for his dumb deals with Drew, Lackey, every SS east of the Mississippi, and losing some pretty good catchers. We are screwed for at least a year because of him.

Once Selig made it known that he would intervene, it became pretty clear these teams were never going to come to an agreement on their own. Not rocket science...

The Cubs rightly figure that Bud will never require them to give up a player of any consequence in exchange for a front office guy, so they don't ever need to blink in their negotiations with the Sox.

The Sox probably assume that Bud will just pick a player that's at least marginally better than what the Cubs are offering now...

The Cubs figure to win this stand-off handily.

Theo is in his new job, and has his GM (Hoyer), so there's no big hurry. However, if the Red Sox continue to try to hold up the Cubs, Bud will intervene.

As usual, Bud will move things along if he wants, and when he wants.
