They probably did and they probably found out that they don’t have (or aren’t willing to trade) the kinds of prospects the Braves are looking for in return…..just because a player is available for trade, doesn’t mean the asking price is reasonable.

Every decent GM will do hid due dilligence and contact numerous agents. I personally wonder why the Yanks dont call the Braves about Jurregans (spelling?) and Prado.

Like any GM it’s smart to keep the lines of communication open with agents of all players that might fill a need for your team. I’m pretty sure Cashman has an “unlimited” calling and texting plan for his cell phone so it doesn’t cost him anything to place a call here and there. Unlike last year where Cashman waited on Lee and his agent to the exclusion of everything else apparently he’s not willing to do that this year. Good for him.

Contrary to the popular belief that the “meek shall inherit the earth” or “everything comes to he who waits” that just doesn’t cut it in baseball.

Look, if Oswalt will accept a 1-year deal for $5MM, I say take him. You never know unless you call, and Cashman would be a terrible GM if he didn’t explore every option.

Is there anything to suggest that the Yankees do have interest in Oswalt? Because it is impossible for them to contact Wilson’s agent without also contacting Oswalt’s agent….both guys being the same person and all.

I look forward to reports of teams contacting the agent for Prince Fielder and Willie Bloomquist.

Both of these pitchers perfectly fit the profile of pitchers that will be grossly overpaid by the Yankees. Yet come nowhere near performing to those contracts.
