I doubt that Kenny is actively shopping either of them. I’d like to think that he’d need an overwhelming offer to move one of them, especially with Buehrle reportedly not giving the Sox a hometown discount (or more accurately a Buddy of Reinsdorf discount) and thus quite possibly leaving.

Think of it like a movie reboot (Star Trek, Footloose, Batman); some of the characters stay, but the cast is re-done.

When a team starts over entirely, they ditch anyone making any significant dollars so they can have all of that money to re-tool and build again.

Hard to say what the return would be, but given that the Sox are looking at a serious dark period post 2012 (and perhaps even 2012), cashing in what they can and waiting for young talent to emerge might be wise. Nobody is taking away those Dunn and Rios contracts so have to turn some money loose and maybe grab a prospect or two where they can.

I just don’t understand baseball anymore. Why would the Sox want to get rid of pitching? I realize that they need some left-handed pop in the lineup, but teams win world championships with pitching! Don’t chase my guys away!

For what it’s worth they’ve drawn my interest. Kidding aside, hopefully they have drawn Brian Cashman’s interest.

All 29 teams should be interested. I’d love to see either or both on the Cubs.
