Outside Coors, Smith’s career line is 257/332/418, or not much better than Prado’s off season last year.

Seems like a bad move for the Braves.

Personally I think the Braves are making a mistake here. Prado had an off year, but as 2010 showed he has good potential. However, he also is a spark plug for that team and a good clubhouse guy – who do you think came up with the ‘mud baths’ the braves used to celebrate walk off wins?

I think in the long run Prado is worth more than Seth Smith and the next 2 years will show that…

This is a case of the braves trading for another problem if they do this. Nothing wrong with smith as a player but if they do this they get another left handed hitting of for a team that struggles against left handed pitching. Heyward still has prospective value, hinske is a great pinch hitter and fills in at first and lf and rf, and bourne is hopefully resigned after this year. Prado is currently a man without a clear position. Smith will just be adding to that problem and may very well be the next without a position.

Seth Smith for Martin Prado seems pretty fair. They hit similarly (Prado more average, but OBP are similar) and while neither are great defenders they are adequate.
