I disagree. He’s gonna be 38 and has already been stretched at shortstop. His ability to play the position, and hit the baseball, is only going to get worse as he ages. Most importantly, it’s not at all clear that the Twins needed to pay THIS much for THIS player for this long, given what other teams would be likely to pay him.

As a Twins fan, I don’t mind this. Carroll will be a breath of fresh air that will bring the stability to the SS position that Nishioka, Plouffe, and Dozier don’t have. It all depends on the price tag, however.

38 years old? Man…. Sounds like that speed, BABIP, and walk rate could go the wrong way pretty fast, and then you have a defensively below average 0.260/0.300/0.320 hitter.

It will hurt to lose Jamey Carroll, as he was a big reason why the Dodgers played as well as they did the last two years. That said, I don’t sign him to any more than two years and it would NOT be as a starting anything. Carroll is good in small doses, but wilts quickly under everyday play.

It says a heck of a lot more about Carroll’s play, since Ned is plain lucky as a GM. Any other team either would have fired Needle Head Ned by now, or never would have hired him in the first place.

I was actually being serious. Jerry Crasnick reported that the Phillies were among the team as interest. I sure as hell hope they wouldn’t sign him to be an everyday player though. The Phillies need some bench upgrades and he would be a clear upgrade from either Valdez or Martinez.

Jamey was spotted in Philly the other day. No major outlets made a big thing about it though, mostly because it was Jamey Carrol, lol. Maybe they are thinking just a fil in until Galvis is ready.

Hey, Jamey Carroll is better than you might believe. He has a career .356 OBP, and can play anywhere, with above average ability. He can still steal a base, and sure seems to be a young 38. For the correct team he is bonus, unless you are going to make him your everyday SS, which I doubt will be the case.

Hahaha! Fair question Alex. Not and EU Alum (my Mother-in-law is…along with some other people I know). I went to Indiana Wesleyan. I just follow the local sports scene very closely. Especially baseketball (growing up an Indiana kid).
Loved Jim Crews (kind of hard not too with him being an IU Alum) and Jerry Sloan (another EU Alum a lot of people don’t realize).

Yeah…wait till’ you see Colt Ryan play. He’s a Batesville kid who can flat out play some ball. As a an Indiana All Start…he was a wonderful sign for Evansville.
He turned down several offers to much larger D-1 schools but chose to play where he could get immediate playing time.
