The Marlins officially become the Miami Marlins; unveil new logo, uniforms

Nov 11, 2011, 9:48 PM EDT

Marlins Miami new logo

The Florida Marlins are no longer.

Ushering in a new era for their new ballpark in Little Havana, owner Jeffrey Loria unveiled the team’s new identity a little less than an hour ago. In addition to the new name, the Miami Marlins, they have a new logo and uniforms.

The logo, to your right, is one of baseball’s worst kept secrets while the uniforms are very close to what we have seen leaked over the past few days.

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel has a look at the different styles here. They’re growing on me. Then again, I was never a big fan of the Marlins’ previous logo and uniforms in the first place.

You can get a look at Logan Morrison and John Buck modeling some of the new unis here. Here’s a shot of Loria posing with some of the players, which provides a better idea of what we’ll be seeing on the field next season. In the next month or so, we’ll find out if Albert Pujols or Jose Reyes will be wearing one of them.

While I’m glad this isn’t the color scheme for the team I care about, I get their attempts to latch onto the schemes of the Dolphins/Hurricanes…the most egregious error in these uniforms is the home versions having “Miami” on the front instead of “Marlins” as should be required for all teams in every sport.

    • blueintown - Nov 12, 2011 at 3:02 PM

Every team in every sport should be required to have “Marlins” written on the front of their jerseys?

You know…for a logo that was just unveiled 87 minutes ago….it sure seems familiar.

Deja vu all over again, huh?

Okay, with that fandango over with, time to get ready for the next big event in Macondo – the first annual Churchill’s Pub Invasive Species Festival next Sunday. Come join us in a celebration of South Florida’s diversity!

Are they having a python fry? I’ve never had python, but boa is fantastic.

      • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM

No, but we are having fish tacos with tilapia, which have driven out our native bluegills. Big deal. Tilapia tastes better anyway. I’ll put a link to the festival up next week when I get back from Austin.

Now that they are the Miami Marlins all those people that are not sitting in the sea of empty seats will slap their heads and figure out the team plays in Miami. If only they had known the games were a short drive away they could have been selling out the stadium.

And with the new logo the stadium will give off a bright glow that will make it easy to find.

Brilliant pic of Morrison & Buck modeling the new logos, with their hands and arms mostly covering the logos!! LOL.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:04 AM

Yeah, they’re going to be the two male model roomates on Lingerie next season…..

  5. addictedzone - Nov 11, 2011 at 10:51 PM

I like the Black and like the Orange and like the BP Jerseys. The road gray looks like a day old oyster.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:05 AM

Probably tastes like one too. Unfortunately, we have polyester eating moths down here…..

  6. trbowman - Nov 11, 2011 at 10:53 PM

Awful colors, awful logo, awful unis and most importantly, awful team.

  7. Gordon - Nov 11, 2011 at 10:59 PM

They should wear patent leather spikes & fedoras to go along with that sassy uniform.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:06 AM

      Swimming flippers….?

  8. amandamartino - Nov 11, 2011 at 11:00 PM

Now we just need to somehow move them to the AL so the Cubs can sweep them in the 2015 World Series.

  9. pestiesti - Nov 11, 2011 at 11:00 PM

I like the concept that they are going for, but the execution leaves something to be desired. The hat logo is too big. The black alternates (like most black alternates) look like batting practice jerseys. They should have gone with an orange or, maybe, blue hat with the home whites instead of a black hat. After a few years a tweaking, they might be nice looking.

Sorry if this is rude, but the M reminds me of the view a gynecologist has when he’s examining a patient. Sorry.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:07 AM

No apologies necessary. It’s a hell of a view. But as one ages, the overgrowth tends to cover it up…..

  11. bsputnik - Nov 12, 2011 at 12:06 AM

    Worst logo in professional sports.

    • bloodysock - Nov 12, 2011 at 12:20 AM

      Worse than the Washington Wizards?

      • foreverchipper10 - Nov 14, 2011 at 11:30 AM

I have heard whispers the Wiz may go back to being the Bullets.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:09 AM

It looks lousy on a uniform, but it will look fine on the tailfin of their chartered 727.

  12. bloodysock - Nov 12, 2011 at 12:19 AM

I like Loria’s uniform the best.

    • Old Gator - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:08 AM

Yes, they did a better job on it than on his orthodonture.

  13. cowboysoldiertx - Nov 12, 2011 at 8:39 AM

I have no words to say how horrible this is. It makes me long for the 86 Astros uniform!

    • cowboysoldiertx - Nov 12, 2011 at 8:55 AM

Update… My wife and daughter both think they are pretty uniforms……

  14. JBerardi - Nov 12, 2011 at 11:27 AM

That’s just a horrific logo. What is with the thick gray outlining of everything? It’s not enough to have chosen a bunch of mis-matched colors, you have to throw a bunch of heavily-weighted bland gray outlines in there too? Honestly, this is at best C+ work in any respectable graphic design program. Just awful.

Should go nice with the rainbow flags

  17. Robert - Nov 12, 2011 at 5:44 PM

These colors don’t fit Boston or Philly, they are complete for the Miami area.

Marlins gear will probably be in the top 10 in sales next season.

    Like the unique orange hat.

  18. mojosmagic - Nov 12, 2011 at 6:01 PM

The uniforms play well if you are a Telly Tubby character. You have to love the cute little gay rainbow.

  19. crankyfrankie - Nov 12, 2011 at 7:53 PM

If you look up ugly in the dictionary it say see the Miami Marlins uniforms.

  20. xli2006 - Nov 12, 2011 at 11:28 PM

Yikes. Miami Marlins works, but the Unis are a mess.
