Hate to break the news to Twins fans out there, but Doumit doesn't offer the positional flexibility you're hoping for. Has a good bat, but is a huge defensive liability at 1B and in the outfield. Guy is a mediocre catcher, best suited to a backup role at that position. DH is where Doumit should be getting most of his at bats.

Given the Twins injury woes last year, the more the merrier, right?! Plus Plouffe can play more of the infield where Doumit doesn't do us a lot of good.

I had Doumit and Carroll very high on my free agent position players to target because of their anticipated price, offensive prowess and positional flexibility. I think the Twins are going to spend a lot of next year trying out Parmlee/Plouffe/Hughes to see where they fit, so having guys who are equally adaptable but more proven offensively (ie: Carroll & Doumit) makes a lot of sense.

I think he makes perfect sense (at the right price) for the Twins. They've got questions marks in RF, at 1B, at DH and are in need of a backup catcher. If they can afford him, he is pretty much a perfect fit.

Doumit averages 26 runs below average per 120 games due to a lack of pitch framing ability alone. He could make sense as an everyday DH/1B/Backup Catcher but he definitely should not be catching every day.
