When that 1995 comment was made, I was a little mind-blown into how long he’s been playing. 18 seasons already; by the time his deal is up, it’ll have been 24 seasons.

If he’s able to turn his numbers around at all, after being around this long, I’ll be impressed.

I’d hope Montero gets as many of the DH at bats as possible, but I’m sure A-Rod will get some. I agree with bringing Chavez back though, anyway.

Gardner is one of the most valuable outfielders in baseball, and provides that value at extremely low cost. Stellar defense and doesn’t really cost you at the plate.

Now that the Yanks dont have a steady DH they can use that to keep Alex fresh during the year, i think it would be great if they resign Chavez if he doesnt retire and let him play some 3rd base when Alex DH’s. I can see a .290 average and 30 to 35HR’s happening if he stays healthy, i still think they should consider upgraded in left field as Gardner’s light hitting just doesnt justify him out there everyday

Strikeouts aren’t a bad outcome for a hitter. People really need to get over them.

Contracts are signed by (at least) two parties. If the Yankees didn’t want to guarantee A-Rod (or anyone) that much money, they shouldn’t have signed the deal.

The one problem in yankeesfanlen’s post about the four he mentioned is they will put up well over 400+ strikeouts. Some how they need to cut down on the K’s. Heck, Derek Lowe says that if he just goes back to being a fastball-first pitcher he can get back to where he was 4-5 years ago.

If he can be that’s great news for us Yankees fans. To be honest if he can be 90% of the 2007/2009 Alex we’ll take it. The Yankees need him to play at least 130 games in the field and do some DH’ing, 500 plus PA. If he can do that both he and the Yankees should have a very good year.

I would hope the further rehabilitation and training regimen that ARod gets over the winter will get him back to 140 games at third and 40+ HRs.
Between that and Grandy, Tex and Swisher we could make a good run at the team HR record in 2012.
