He can fill in for Howard at first, but can play OF when Howard comes back.

I agree with most of what you say, but I will argue that Michael Martinez and Wilson Valdez are not even good bench options. Both are only able to play one position decently (Martinez 3B and Valdez SS) and neither can hit at all. If it were up to me, Michael Martinez would be with the Iron Pigs next year. I’d probably keep Valdez around though.

Shortstop should be their high priority. Martinez and Valdez are a great 1-2 punch as backup/bench/utility guys, but starting SS’s they are not. With Mayberry able to play 1st and Dom Brown possibly able to play LF for the time being, they don’t NEED to sign Cuddyer. Is he better than Brown? Probably right now, yeah. Will he be a year or two into a contract? Maybe not.
