As much as I would like the Angels to sign a catcher or a 3rd baseman with some pop, good pitching defeats good hitting every time. Another quality starter relieves pressure on the bullpen and just adds to an already good staff. While it's nice to dream that losing your #1 guy to a division rival is nothing, the Angels also have good arms coming up and this allows them the flexibility to either trade for a bat or keep what they have and see what happens. With Williams as our 5th guy, it makes our rotation just that more formidible.

If Morales can come back, even as a DH, it improves our lineup a lot. If he comes back as our 1b sometime next season and Trumbo can adapt to 3rd, we would have a lot more pop in our lineup and possibly for a long time. If Trout comes on like expected in LF in 2012/13, we will be even more explosive. We also have a deep farm system with a few more outfielders on their way up. So, when Hunter and Wells go, we'll have the talent to keep up. Trout, Bourjos, and a prospect look like long term and quality replacements. Morales, Kendricks, Aybar, Trumbo, and Conger look like a good homegrown bunch for the infield with others on their way up as well.

We need some bullpen help, but with the addition of Wilson, I'm sure that it would make LAA a much more attractive spot for any arm thinking about coming here, like Bell for a year or two to allow Walden to mature into the closer role.

I can deny that, and I do. He may be our #1, but he isn't an actual #1. We have the pitching in the minors to replace him, and the stars in the minors to trade for a legit Ace if we need one. There will be a lot of big name pitchers at the 2012 trade deadline that are made available because a lot of them will be free at the end of 2012. So I'm all for LAA spending more money on a guy that will play 6 innings every 5th day instead of a guy that will play 9 innings every day on offense...like you need.

The Rangers will be shell shocked next year because of the multiple times they had the carpet pulled out from under them by the World Champion Cardinals.

Oh, the Angels can afford big contracts. The Rangers continue to lose stars.

If CJ leaves Texas I sure hope it is for LAA. They are already hamstrung with bad contracts next year, and pitching is not their problem. They need hitting, but as a Rangers fan I'm thrilled if they go after more pitching instead of hitting.

I am also "familiar with the team's thinking". And I don't recall an acquisition of a starting pitcher like CJ Wilson in recent years. Joe Saunders, Bartolo Colon, Jeff Weaver, Kelvim Escobar, Aaron Sele. None of these guys were ever thought to be as good as Wilson when the Angels acquired them. The best pitcher they had in the past 10 years was John Lackey, and they didn't even try to re-sign him when he hit the market. Am I missing free agents they attempted to sign but failed? If not, then this 'source' is full of sh*t.
