I don’t think Chris Volstad would bring even a not-so-EYP anymore. He was already a non-tender candidate, so he would likely be free in a month. Not inviting him to the party is pretty much the same as Jeffrey Loria giving him a cubic zirconium-encrusted “NON-TENDER” pendant.

Its obvious that the Marlins are not interested in your services and that $450,000.00 you earned last year should help to ease your transition into you next career. Open a landscaping business on the Palm Beaches; but please keep quiet.

I think it’s probably true that the Feesh have run out of patience with him. In Nolasco, they already have a maddeningly inconsistent starter with coalcar loads of “potential.” Volstad might bring a midlevel EYP or the proverbial utility infielder looking for a rebound year.

It would be interesting if he were being shopped because he’s entering his arbitration years…mixed signals from the Marlins (we want to spend spend spend on free agents but can’t afford to keep low-cost back-end rotation pieces), or revealing their true intentions wrt Reyes and Pujols (we actually have no money we want to spend, we just like to pretend to fake everyone out)?

The question is, who would be foolish enough to want to make a move for him, and what kind of value could they get in return? But just not starting every 5th day is a plus for Miami.
