Baseball is a game that celebrates tradition. It is ridiculous that the Reds aren’t the first game. They ARE the first professional baseball team and played the first ever night game. Shore up on that history.

The problem is that for years, MLB has ignored the time honored tradition of starting the new season in Cincinnati. It is too late now to object. As far as the first team in baseball, Cincinnati is the FIRST CITY to have a professional baseball team. You can’t change that although that doesn’t seem to matter much today.

There are at least 28 cities in the U.S. that claim to be “Queen Cities”, and two in Canada. Plus there is also Queen City, Mo, and Queen City, Tx. I guess it is good to be the Queen.

If the MLB wants Miami to be able to showcase it’s new venue on primetime and have it as the first game of the year they should have White Sox vs Marlins in a one-game interleague series. I think that would be much more interesting than Cards vs Marlins. But hey that’s why Selig gets paid the big bucks!!

I know it is a tough thing for people like craig to grasp but there are some things that should not be changed just for the sake of change. the activities he makes fun of have gone on for years and should not be moved just because of that.yea let’s do something different for no reason other than to be different this year.

The original franchise? Do some research. The original Cincinnati Reds left town after 1870 and went to Boston and are now the Atlanta Braves. The second incarnation of the Reds was kicked out of the National League in 1880. The current incarnation of the Reds didn’t start playing until 1882 in the American Association joining the NL in 1890. This is not the original franchise, but far from it. If you want to celebrate baseball’s oldest franchise, go join Craig and celebrate the Braves.

Good to see this has been turned into a better situation. Opening Day is a huge deal in Cincinnati and having a day earlier is much better when considering the Opening Day Parade and the fact it brings a lot of business to Findlay Market on what would normally be on a off day for the market. It’s also nice for traditional purposes.

I have always heard Cincinnati referred to as the queen city. I don’t know anything about Charlotte. Was it named after a queen?

Incredibly random, but this is the 2nd time in less than 24 hours I’ve heard somebody refer to Cincinnati as “The Queen City”. What’s weird about this is 24 hours ago I had always thought Charlotte, NC was “The Queen City”. I’ve never lived close to either, so I don’t think I have a bias, but I think two cities this large in the USA can’t have the same nickname. This needs to be settled somehow.

They are the original Franchise and I have no problems with them be honored for such.

In my opinion…as the original Franchise they should ALWAYS play the 1st game.
Traditions are quite frankly…traditions. Unfortunately, no one could give a crap about it anymore.
