Biggest problem I had with the deal was that, apparently, management forgot you need to have a complete team (24 other guys) that play pretty good baseball. The Dodger offense for part of those years was horrid.

I would like to say that bus the case. But it was just a stupid mistake on my part. As they say mistakes are why they put erasers on pencils or more appropriate to this day and age “edit or delete” comment signs on web site blogs.

In his time with the Dodgers, Brown posted a 148 ERA+ and 20.2 WAR over 5 seasons. He was totally health 3 of those 5 seaons and in those three years, he ranked 3rd, 2nd and 3rd in WAR for pitchers.

Here are his numbers as a reminder:
1999: 18-9, 3.00 ERA (143 ERA+), 252 IP
2000: 13-6, 2.58 ERA* (169 ERA+), 230 IP, .991 Whip
2001: 10-4, 2.65 ERA (151 ERA+), 115 IP
2002: 3-4, 4.81 ERA (79 ERA+), 63 IP
2003: 14-9, 2.39 ERA (169 ERA+), 211 IP

What the hell are Dodgers fans so pissed about again? He was one of the best pitchers in baseball when he was healthy. He missed time in a couple of seasons…it happens. But the Brown deal was nowhere close to being the god-awful contract everyone makes it out to be.

Hey, who gives a “thumbs down” to this anyways? I’m just curious, since I’m avoiding work for half an hour and its always bugged me. See I can understand making a mistake, and I suppose those down clicks on UYF’s original comment have some logic (though it does sort of imply an element of judgement on others, which was, last time I paid attention to the Christian Mythologies, a Sin) but a down click on Drew pointing out he was right makes no sense at all. Whatupwidat?
