Terry Francona in talks to broadcast for FOX next season

After Terry Francona told Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com earlier this week that he will not manage next season, the natural assumption was that he would end up in the broadcasting booth before testing the waters again next offseason. FOX was obviously impressed with the work he did filling in for Tim McCarver during the ALCS, because they are already trying to secure him as part of their broadcasting team for next season.

FOX Sports spokesman Dan Bell confirmed the network’s interest to Richard Deitsch of SI.com:

“We are talking to Terry Francona and our hope is for him to join our coverage next season.”

I approve. The only bummer about him joining FOX is that it would kill the chances of Bobby Valentine taking the Red Sox manager job and Francona replacing him in the booth for Sunday Night Baseball for ESPN. Now that would be awkwardly awesome.

Cool. He was great filling in for McCarver.

    This is good news

Anything to get Tim McCarver into my eardrums would be welcome.

Like so many dumb ex-jocks, he thinks he’s funny…but he isn’t. Bob Uecker is funny. Guys like McCarver, Mark Grace and Steve “Psycho” Lyons are just plain morons.

I guess that means he will do Red Sox games every Saturday!

Francona and the Red Sox need to kiss and make up. He belongs in the Sox dugout. There is no problem that can’t be fixed.
