Rockies offer Seth Smith to Braves for Martin Prado

Earlier this month Colorado was said to be talking to Atlanta about infielder Martin Prado and now Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies offered outfielder Seth Smith.

Detroit reportedly offered Delmon Young for Prado and got turned down, so it seems pretty clear that Atlanta is shopping Prado for outfield help and holding out for a strong return.

According to Renck, if the Rockies end up keeping Smith they’d look to sign free agent Jonny Gomes as a platoon partner. Smith has hit just .202 with a .588 OPS versus left-handed pitching. He’s also been mediocre away from Coors Field, batting .258 with a .750 OPS on the road for his career, which no doubt plays into the Braves’ reluctance.

I don’t see anywhere in that linked story attributed to Renck that the Braves turned down the offer of Smith for Prado
