Now that Francisco is all but gone, the Jays are completely out of all the contractual costs associated with the Vernon Wells contract. The Jays do not begrudge the success Napoli had in Texas.

MLB wants you to spend money on merchandise. Using the Rangers as an example: the team only has 2 hats, red and blue. Three if you count the 4th of July hats.

The logic probably goes that if we (or our children) see the players wearing a hat, it increases the chances that we will want to own it (or buy it for our children). Thus, the BP hats. It’s just something else for us to spend $30 on.

Off topic. Looking at this picture, it brings up a subject I’ve been wanting to address: the atrocious BP hat. What in the hell is its purpose other than being ugly as sin and totally little league-ish? Why can’t paid athletes wear New Era game hats during Spring Training AND two hours before game time?
