It’s business and if the Yankees propose the best deal Epstein and Hoyer will do it. They will not think of loons, the nation or give a crap what people in only Boston care about.

I’ll say it again, stated differently . . . my theory (not necessarily anything resembling reality) is based on the premise that even if the Cubs were willing to deal Garza as part of or all of the compensation for Theo, Epstein or Hoyer wouldn’t pull the trigger without knowing Garza’s current market value – especially because Garza is one of the Cubs most valuable trade assets.

The Red Sox have two highly gifted lower level prospects, one of which has all the tools to make a rapid rise to the bigs (Moore). If the Red Sox are willing to deal either Ranaudo or Moore, then knowing Theo – talented young pitching would be the starting point in any deal where the Cubs would be giving up a talented ML SP – the Red Sox have at least the key ingredient that Hoyer/Epstein would be seeking to get a deal done.

And why should Theo give one flying rat’s ass about “the Nation”? He had been gone barely a week before it started throwin him under the bus saying he had to be the source of the leaks that came out after the collapse.

Epstein and a couple of prospects for a quality starter? They’d have to throw a lot more in or Hoyer should be fired if he made that deal.

If the Red Sox deem Garza a worthy target (and he’d be my #1 in the current field of available SP’s) then they can start with Matt Barnes (who hasn’t pitched his first pro-inning yet) or Anthony Ranaudo – and with either one of them in a deal I would imagine would be enticing to Theo.

And, ya know perhaps part of the reason compensation was tabled was so the Cubs could put Garza on the open market to set a fair price for the Red Sox to match or not. Garza was among Lucchino’s targets in the Theo talks.

In a rational world you are correct, .. there is no reason why Hoyer and Cashman can’t do business. I’m not so sure that we’re just there yet.

At the end of the day if the Yankees offered the right package the Cubs would do the trade but how it would play in Boston would be part of the conversation. And, the Nation would absolutely HOWL!! Especially, if it was perceived as a less than overwhelming offer.

Yes! And hey, Theo is only the VP of operations (or some other such title). Hoyer is the GM, so Theo is off the hook on this one. Cashman can trade with Hoyer. Why not?

I read that when he lived in Boston Epstein had to have a BPD patrol car in front of his home at times to keep the loons at bay. If he ever traded Garza to the Yankees the loons would come a find him in chicago.

On the other hand, the Yankee do have the prospects. But, it just seems to be a bit too soon to be dealing with the Empire for Gorilla Boy and his minion.

That was more a play on the RS asking for Garza or Castro for Theo. I don’t know if there is actually any interest.

I sure hope you’re wrong, Alex. I will not be able to stomach watching Garza pitch every fifth day as he constantly spits microscopic (imaginary) spit particles. Drives me up the wall.

Short of Elsbury, who do the RS have? If they trade Garza their likely looking for a real haul and I don;t think the RS have enough in their system.

There is no reason to trade Castro because he is already a legit major league player at 21. The fact he is a SS is just the icing on the cake.

The Yankees should have the prospects to do this, he’d be cheaper than Wilson, and more available than King Felix. And after Wrigley, the jet stream in the Bronx won’t be that hard to adapt to.

It makes perfect sense, Theo and Hoyer know they’re not coming into a win-now situation. The Cubs need some work and they’ve got a very valuable trade chip in Garza. Castro is their most valuable piece, but after years of Theo searching for a legit shortstop he’s got zero reason to move Castro.

I’m not against trading Garza. He is the best pitcher on the team, so I would imagine that the Cubs will have to be blown away to move him.

I hear the Red Sox are interested.
