As I noted on another thread, he has had four drafts and so far the Astros only have two prospects in the top 100. And both of those were obtained in the Pence trade. Perhaps Castro and Lyles will work out, but I don’t see where Wade’s “rebuilding” had made much progress at all to date. The minor league teams are all still weak.

At first I was shocked and disgusted at the Astros for firing Wade!! Then I remembered that the Phillies have already taken the last of their good players so what the hell, can his ass. In all seriousness he was fired from the Phillies just as all of his drafted core turned the Phillies into a perennial contender and it’s likely that the good young players that the Astros will have in 2 or 3 years will all be guys he got from the Phillies and Braves in last seasons deals.

Wade has been terrible. Traded away any talent the team had, for basically nothing. Brad Mills has been given terrible teams, so who knows if he is a good manager. Keep him or fire him, Astros fans won’t really care that much. They just want to see a legit chance of making the playoffs each year, and the longshot of making some noise once they get there. Not a tall order, which is why Wade had to go.

Ed Wade gets hired as director of scouting and player development for the Phillies… Astros still paying him for doing that job for the Phillies, but he’ll as least be in Philly for the job now.

Let’s see: They traded away Bourn, Oswalt & Pence, and all they have to show for it is Shafer and some minor league prospects. At least when they traded away Berkman they got Melancon.
