Does this prove that no Japanese pitcher can ever be good? Of course not. It just shows that there is risk involved, as with any potential major league player. The Yankees and everyone else are well aware of this risk.

From 1994 to 1996 there was no more famous player – no more amazing pitcher – nobody with a more amazing fastball (98mph) or devastating breaking ball – in all Japan than the 24 year old Hideki Irabu (God rest his soul). He was going to be amazing. The MLB world went nuts and George brought him to the bronx. How did that work out?

Darvish is the most famous athlete in Japan. Bigger than matsui and ichiro. Not suprising he married a famous actress. Also, not a suprise that his marriage failed being as young and famous as he is. Dont think it reflects poorly on his character. Btw, the NY sports paper reported this divorce/delay info last month. Anyway, Darvish is supposedly the real deal. Yankees should sign him up along with the Cuban stud, Cepadis.

From everything I have read (coming from people who have actually scouted him) this kid is a different beast. My guess is the Yankees will go hard after him if he posts, simply because he is better than anything on the market.

As always Mr. Yankee hater, that doesn’t guarantee they’ll get him (kind of the whole point behind a silent auction ya know) but they will be in the mix. At the very least, they’ll force somebodies hand into overpaying like a mother f***er for him.

Which is in the end a win in its own right.

He could have been young and just made a mistake, but it’s more likely that seems to hint that he could be a tad wild.

Not a Yankee fan but Cashman SHOULD spend that kinda of money on this kid. He’s the best that has ever come out of Japan… better than Nomo, Dice-K, Kuroda, you name him… Darvish is better and much younger too. Whoever gets the kid will not regret it.
