Of course it wasn't his hamstring that was torn from the bone. Either his hamstring muscle was torn from the tendon holding it to the bone or the tendon attaching the hamstring muscle to the bone was torn away.

Seems Rendon is ticketed for 2B, which could create a logjam at middle infield for 2013 (barring a trade, of course).

I'm optimistic Zimmerman will be extended. Three years ago, it wasn't clear he wanted to be in Washington. Now, he's the face of the franchise (yes, even after Strasburg's return), and is making the right noises about wanting to stay. With the Werth signing, the Lerners showed that they're willing to let Rizzo spend their money (also, something that didn't seem the case 3 years ago). It's clear that both sides want to gen an extension done.

Agree, plus Marrero struggles to play 1B. He got an extended tryout and produced little. Meanwhile, the Nats have guys who can play 1B, notably Morse. For the bench, better to have a versatile guy like DeRosa (or another of the many utility guys looking for work).

I wish Chris a speedy recovery, but just don't see how he fits in the team's plans once he recovers.

It just doesn't make sense to me for the Nats to persue Fielder. The have Tyler Moore and Anthony Rendon in the system right now, and would seem to just need a first basemen to hold down the fort for a year or so until one or both are ready for the bigs. Morse can certainly fill that need. Or LaRoche if healthy. That is of course assuming they are wanting to go long term on their other corner infield star Ryan Zimmerman.

Not signing Zimmerman long term would be a world class blunder, that I wouldn't put past the Lerners or Rizzo. I hope they know better.

Morrero had a pretty good average in limited action, but no home runs and not a lot of RBIs. And for a team that struggled to scored, the Nationals need the latter much more. I expect this to derail his shot and keep him in the minors for longer. Outside of Washington, no one will notice this injury.
