I used to supervise Ianetta’s Sister-in-Law when she was in college. She told me that the Angels really wanted Chris. What I do not understand is why Colorado gave up on a 28 yr old catcher, and signed a 35 year old one? Hernandez played in less games, but had about the same production…I think I would have stuck with the junior model here…but, they know what we do not.

Chatwood, on the surface, looks like a poor buy but he is not only still young, but he showed, in glimpses, real ability. He just wasn’t consistent, has very poor control and cannot punch out hitters. He needs more development of his pitches, maybe a new one, and some patience. In time, he should develop into a solid middle reliever, at worst or decent no., 4 or 5 starter.

The Rockies gave up on Iannetta. At least they got young potential in return for him.

I just hope the reds do not do anything stupid and sign a “veteran” to back up hannigan and stunt the growth mesaroco.newsflash dusty and walt, hannigan is veteran and it is time to play the kid. and do not kid yourself if they do sign somebody mesaroco will be lucky to play once a month and will end up back in the minors.. same with the other prospects they have,let them play!

See, all you budding GMs & Managers? This is why you do not run down and trade away a solid defensive catcher with a good bat and decent skills with the pitching staff. Doesn’t matter if he gets the job done different than when you where a catcher, Mr. Scoscia. What matters is that he gets the job done. Now you are reduced to “upgrading” with Iannetta: good luck with that. Mind you, you are upgrading on Mathis, the catcher you kept after you discarded that World Series Stud, Napoli. That’s some logic, right there.

Memo to Mike Scoscia: good hitting, solid defensive catchers do not grow on trees.

Not sure why people like Chatwood. I know he was young-ish for AAA ball, but his numbers everywhere have been pedestrian at best. Underwhelming stuff and a complete lack of command. Coors is going to eat him alive…

Horrible deal for the Halos. Chatwood could/should have been packaged together to bring a proper 3B to the Halos. This doesn’t address a real need. Yes Mathis sucks, but Hank Conger is ready and Wilson is serviceable. Oh yay! Iannetta has a great career OBP but hes played his home games in Coors Field for 5 years. Seems like the same line of wimpy moves that the Angels GM’s are known for. BOOOO!
p.s As an Angel’s fan I hope I am wrong that this deal sucks.

I don’t hate this move for the Halos. I look forward to Ianetta platooning for 3 years then being flipped and have him peak and almost lead his new team to a World Series.
