It’s funny. Rollins doesn’t seem to be your typical dumb athlete who’s out of touch with reality but he’s way off on this one. Apparently the Phillies might even go 4 years with him and he’s still holding out. I don’t think another team goes 4 years with him, much less 5. He obviously thinks the Phillies will cave. If they move on he may be left out in the cold for a good long while. He doesn’t have the Jeter thing going on either where the fans are demanding that the club take care of him based on prior years accomplishments. Rollins is a quasi-household name in baseball but the more you see his interviews it really becomes apparent that he holds himself and his good, but not great career in higher regard than the rest of the world.

Honestly at this point I would rather have furcal and Ramirez over rollins. At this point if furcal can stay healthy I don’t think the numbers will be much different , plus Ramirez in our park could hit 40 homers and give Howard serious protection. Letting pence be our lead off hitter.

Curious move by Rollins and his agent. As Furcal has been a member of the walking wounded squad as well, I’m not sure what leverage they think they have (unless the Yankees want another aging SS on their roster).

Jimmy and the Phillies are like those friends of yours who have been dating for way too long. You love them both, but you’re not sure they’re necessarily right for each other.

Now Jimmy’s looks are fading and he’s pressuring Amaro for a ring. Amaro’s not sure he wants to commit over the long haul and it’s starting to get uncomfortable for everybody.

I’m pulling for them, but this could get ugly….. and soon.

Are you sure he doesn’t? Papelbon 4 yrs/$50MM guaranteed. 5th year should be an easy vesting option making it a 5 yr/$63MM deal. Bring back the type of deal or memories of anyone you might recall.

Let’s see. Formerly really good SS, but one who is now old and in serious decline, wants BIG $, long term contract from his current team. Current team gives him the horse-laugh. No other serious bidders, at least at that price. Didn’t we see part one of this movie last winter?
