To win, your starting point is a strong rotation. Until they have that, they have little shot at any competition.

Bulk up the rotation and then work toward adding a few pieces to that lineup. Then go from there.

The president and the GM of The Jays have strongly downplayed any interest in Fielder. AA said that only 1% of the rumors linking the Jays to various players is accurate.

It’s all an act. Duquette has to act like he wants to make some big FA signings to appease the fans. That way when we get our usual influx of has-beens and never-weres, he can look into the camera and say that he tried.

PA is worth around a billion, stupid rich by normal standards, not compared to say the Nationals and Mariner owners.

When the O’s had that high payroll in the late 90′s they were selling out every game, not just opening day and the weekends when the Yankee and Red Sox fans come down and take over OPACY.

The market was also shrunk by the Nationals coming into it.

MASN is indeed a cash cow but as you stated, its owned by PA not the Orioles. Thus far the O’s have not been receiving any extra funding from it.

Angelos is one of the wealthier owners in baseball and has a cash cow in the mid-Atlantic Sports Network. He also had the highest payroll in baseball in the late 1990s. No small market issues here.
He has, however, been gun-shy about big long contracts after he signed Albert Belle to a mega-contract, only to have him have to retire due to a degenerative hip condition.
The Orioles’ payroll has been in the middle of MLB the past few years. Problem is two-fold–lack of commitment to scouting and player development and spending too much on “low-end” free agents (Vlad Guerrero, Tejada the second time around, etc.).

He is not going to the Orioles. The Orioles need pitching and figure out what to do with Brian Roberts. The Orioles have some offensive and defensive pieces.
Its a culture of losing at Camden Yards. The Orioles need Angelos to sell the team. That is the best gift he could give the fans after treating fans to 17 out of 20 years of losing under his reign.

Of course the O’s are interested, at the right price point. I think it is very unlikely Prince’s price falls to the point where the O’s would become a player.

Can’t disagree with them either. Baltimore isn’t a large enough market to be able to recover if Prince goes all Mo Vaughn on them in a few years.

I would love to see the O’s sign him. However, in my opinion, it would be a waste. Prince will be a washed up 400lb DH by the time the O’s are relevant again.
