Cubs official denies making offer to Albert Pujols

Albert Pujols

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported last night that the Cubs “are believed to have made a qualifying bid” for Albert Pujols.

However, this morning Carrie Muskat of MLB.com spoke to an unnamed Cubs official who “denied the reports.”

Muskat adds that she thinks a Cubs offer to Pujols “seems unlikely” because it “doesn’t fit into what Theo Epstein has said he wants to do in Chicago.”

Most of the speculation about Pujols and the Cubs seems to stem from Epstein meeting yesterday with the first baseman’s agent, Dan Lozano, but as Epstein coyly noted afterward Lozano represents numerous clients in addition to Pujols.

It appears that Lozano is trying to build up the offer, by creating doubt in the redbirds front office about who Albert is speaking to.

Muskat also thought that Theo was serious about talking to Lozano about Rodrigo Lopez. So lets not put tons of stock in this report.

It would be awesome. Who wouldn’t love for Pujols to shock the world by starring in a one hour long ESPN special to announce he has signed with the Miami Heat?

Of course the Ursinines never made an offer. Nobody likes being spit on.

Gator: Seriously? Come on Man! Translate please.
I refuse to google “Ursinines” because I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO. Lol!
