I can’t really see the point, unless they have a no-brainer offer from some team for Lowrie or Scutaro. Especially with Iglesias (and more importantly, Iglesias’ defense) in the wings, does it really make sense to bring in a guy that’s going to A: cost a multi-year deal along with a posting fee and B: have no guarantee of success at the Major League Level? Maybe (just a shot in the dark here) there’s something in the trade pipe with Youk, and they’re thinking of Lowrie as a 3rd basemen going into the season? Ah, screw it. I don’t know how to read this team anymore….
