Agree with sdelmonte. Why keep Wright? You’ve already told your fans that your pretty much blowing it all up and rebuilding. Why not get a decent haul for Wright? Will he still be a viable player when the Mets financial woes end? Didn’t you just watch Reyes leave for nothing? Yeah, you may get a couple draft picks as compensation but trading these guys gets you draft picks that have already solidified themselves as top prospects. I don’t get it. Do they really think fans will come to the park to see a 90-100 loss team just because David Wright is playing 3rd? You’ve already botched the whole “new stadium” push that the marlins are now enjoying. Cut bait and move on. (and send Wright to my Phillies!!!)

Yeah but the point is by the time the Mets can have any shot to win those guys won’t be cheap. If they stay on their current progression they will be making really decent money in 3 plus years, even if only through arbitration.

It’s a gamble but it is one they seem to be intent on taking. Try and trade those guys, and anyone else they can, load up on a dozen or so high end prospects and hope that 3 or 4 turn into studs to build around while that new batch is young and cheap etc..

They just can’t make a token effort to sign Reyes then deal Wright. Fan base will stay away and they will pull in numbers like the Marlins did in recent years. Still need ticket sales to pay off all that debt the Wilpons have racked up for the team ($600 plus million according to Forbes).

But isn’t Davis and to a lesser extent, Niese, hitting pay dirt on young talent? Davis has played less than 2 years in the bigs. I don’t see the point of trading young proven talent for young unproven talent.

You just answered your question.

Those kind of players could bring back HUGE packages of prospects. The front office is in rebuild mode and not trying to hide that fact. They are more than willing to stink it up for a couple years, trade off parts like Niese and Davis and hope they hit pay dirt on a bunch of young talent via trades/the draft.

Wright is still young enough to build around, IMO. Of course, I thought the same thing about Reyes.

If the Mets want to munch on some salary I’d bet a whole bunch of teams would love to take the chance. But yeah, more than likely they’d rather wait until the tdl.

You think anyone wants a high priced pitcher back from a prolonged absence whose fastball is no longer fast? I think he can still produce wins and outs, but I can’t imagine there will be many takers just yet.

No idea why they’d consider moving Davis or Neise. They’re both cheap and arbitration eligible for years.
