I thought the Nats were going to be big players this year after the whole " we signed Werth to show we are serious" fiasco last year. As a Phillies fan I watched Oswalt over the last year and a half and he is still solid, but thats about it. I'm sure he's better than the Nats 3rd or 4th starter but even if Strasburg comes back healthy I don't think oswalt makes them a serious player yet in the NL East. It's a shame what they did last year. I agree with the theory of a previously down franchise having to overpay to start building a rep as a serious team. They unfortunately just picked the wrong guy to overspend on. Now, if they get Fielder then your talking.

He would still be a nice get for the Nats, particularly if they keep Livan Hernandez around to pick up the slack as the spot starter/middle relief/innings eater guy.
