The Marlins are still interested in Prince Fielder

Because we haven’t talked about the Marlins in, like, five minutes, here you go: Jon Heyman says they’re still interested in Prince Fielder.

At this point, why not? They’ve already signed everyone else, why not Prince Fielder too? Whether he’d want to go to Florida given (a) the big dimensions of that new park; and (b) what his agent said about Fielder’s love of home run-friendly parks last night is an open question.

And his agent wouldn’t be….Scott Bore-us, would it? Now how in the world did Jon Heyman find out that the Feesh were “still” interested in Fielder when it’s already been clarified that they weren’t interested in that tub of lard in the first place?

Gator is right. Heyman is just taking his normal role as Boras shill.

Heyman being Boras’ shill is true enough. But some reasons to believe it anyway:

      1. If the Marlins miss out on Pujols, they can get Fielder with 60% of the money spent. And they seem to REALLY want to spend money. And in some ways, Fielder’s less or a risk than Pujols, since he’d only require signing for ages 28-33 or so, instead of 32-41.

      2. Because his agent is, indeed, Scott Boras, Fielder is likely to take the biggest offer, regardless of team, ballpark, etc.

Gator, what’s the secret ingredient you put n Scrooge McLoria’s punch this year?

    • Old Gator - Dec 8, 2011 at 11:23 AM

      Ice Nine.

      He didn’t drink it.

      Fortuitously.

He got the news where he always does, in a bathroom stall.

Was last years Marlins 1st baseman an All-Star/ And isn’t he extremely cheap? And isn’t he from Miami? Cuban? I mean, lets focus on CJ and Cespedes. Eye on the prize.

    • Old Gator - Dec 8, 2011 at 11:28 AM

The Feesh don’t need a first baseman – certainly not one whose name isn’t Pujols. Gaby will do just fine. He’s young, inexpensive, and he’s already very good and getting better. They’ve said they’re not interested in Fielder and they have no reason to be. If they lose CJ to California – I mean as in home sweet home, not the Angels in particular – they’re still a whole new ballclub from the one that walked in the door on Sunday.

There is still an entire weenter and spreeng to make trades and pick up available free agents. There’s still the kind of plug-in talent left out there that can be the missing piece(s) for a contender. They’ve done the planting. Now let’s see if Beinfest’s still got it as a pruner and shaper.

Prince is from Florida, about two and a half hours north of Miami. He would probably like to come home.

Where some good home cookin’ can fatten him up, right?

      Stay away, Prince.
