Meathead listen up here.

I have seen Yonder on T-V and at the game. With his fielding, he will have to hit at least .350 and 30 HR’s to make up for it. I think Craig is being tactful. IF and only if Yonder can be taught fielding skills, he can be very valuable. Otherwise, he is only going to be a DH in the AL. (my opinion). Look at it logically, not with your heart.

P.S. I like him too, and hope he can improve in the field.

so craig what makes you say he can’t play defense? is it his fault the reds stuck in left field for 30 games in the minors before calling him up and putting him out there? you do realize he is a first baseman right? he is not going to beat out Votto so where else do you play him? unlike dusty give him time to play and learn the position before you say something like he can’t play defense anywhere. wait I bet you have some newly invented stat that proves it right?

why should the reds give up 2 of their best prospects for a guy who is not any better than the young guys they have on the staff? plus pitching at gabp is not the same as where he plays now. expect his era and the new stats I don’t care about to all go up if the trade happens. meanwhile Alonso will be tearing the cover off the ball in Tampa. and grandal could be one of the best catchers in the game in the future. so no to including him in the deal.

Shields is not great, but can pitch well at times.. I would rather develop the Reds young pitchers rather than try to re-hab the old timers. If I am not wrong, Shields loses as many as he wins. I maybe wrong, but not by much.

and what do you base your opinion that Alonso can’t play defense anywhere? based on the fact he was a first baseman in the minors who switched to left field and was called up to the reds after playing 30-40 games there in Louisville? the fact dusty decided to send him out there at wrigley field in his first start and he misplayed a ball hit into the corner where alott people who ply their trade have problems? maybe if he you know he actually got to play there on a regular basis instead of once a week or 2 like dusty played him he might get better. but playing fred lewis was more important in the reds lousy finish than to actualy give Alonso and other reds prospects playing time, you know like every other team that has nothing to play for in September does. plus do not forget the fact he was a third baseman coming out of high school who moved to first because the guy who now starts at third for the twins did not want to move. he has done what the reds told him to do and lost weight and got in better shape so unlike dusty give him a fair chance before you write him off.

fyi, it’s the Enquirer, not Inquirer.

Shields was on the Reds radar around the trade deadline earlier in the year, and nothing happened, but maybe Yonder’s more marketable now. He’d make a better DH than anything else.

Fay has consistently stated that the Reds aren’t interested in dealing for anything less than a #1 or 2 type pitcher. Davis or Niemann won’t be enough, I don’t think.

I think Friedman is WAY too smart to not know of Alonso’s defensive limitations. However, if the Reds were to offer Yonder AND Grandal, I think it would be hard for Friedman to say no.
