First of all, Manny isn’t in a field where others’ lives are on the line! His PED use endangers no one but himself.

Second, Manny is among the few dozen best EVER at what he does. That is why he gets so many chances and makes so much money, unlike you and me.

“alex” is right. the guy is OLD and a cancer in the clubhouse. he quit on his team. no one will offer him anything. he’s not a ‘draw’ anymore. defensive liability. diminished offensive skills. minor league contract at best.

The situation is different here. With Bonds, since he hadn’t really been busted, there was always that threat that he was going to be. If he were in somebody’s uniform when it came down, it would have been a huge black eye for that team. The threat of the law coming down on Bonds and the ensuing media circus must have been a big deterrent from signing him. With Manny, since he’s already “served his time,” there’s no way the threat would be as big.
My guess is that some teams will take a look at him.

Yeah fit well . I’d much rather have manny off the bench then Ben Francisco . Come on we all know his best days are behind him but I think he could help our team in a platoon role and pinch hitter . No brainer especially real cheap and having something to prove

Manny being manny might fit well in Philly . Need a righty bat and corner outfielder to provide some power with Howard out . Doesn’t need to play everyday in Philly and I feel he’d fit in well with the fans . Also Charlie And him are boys . I wouldn’t mind the phils taking him for a season . The window is closing on this team and we need to do whatever it takes now to get another run or two with these core guys .

You are right it wont be a roster spot. I’ll amend that. He’s going to have a hard time finding a team who’s going to waste their time inviting a guy on a 50 game suspension who wasn’t very good the last time he was in a uniform. That better?

No one is going to waste anything by inviting him to Spring Practice to see what is left in him. Some teams will, and if he can hit like he used to, he will be a DH somewhere. That is not wasting a spot for the AL. They will have a look without a doubt.

Why do bums like Manny get numerous chances to make millions of dollars when they screw up all the time?

I’ll put it this way: Barry Bonds was available in 2008 and received no interest. Bonds was better as 42 year old than Ramirez as a 37 year old and hadn’t missed most of the previous 2 seasons. Both had the steroid cloud, but Manny has suspensions. If Bonds couldn’t get a look as a DH after coming off a 169 OPS+ in 477 PAs, why would Manny- without doing anything in 2 years?

Yes, there are some AL teams that could use him in the DH spot every once in a while, because of his reputation, but I could see him putting up sub .150 avg. if that happens its time for him to give up on baseball.
