Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Indians have signed outfielder Felix Pie to a minor league contract worth potentially $1 million.

The deal also comes with an invitation to spring training, where Pie will attempt to land a spot on Cleveland’s 25-man roster. If he’s unable to pull that off, he can request his release on Opening Day.

Pie, 26, batted .220/.264/.280 with zero home runs and only nine total extra-base hits in 175 plate appearances this past year for the Orioles. He was also caught on two of five stolen base attempts.

I remember when Pie was the Cubs’ next great hope. What a disappointment.

Brett’s not in that group, he hasn’t even played in the majors yet; he’s likely their CF in 2013.

True, but he is the Cubs’ next great hope/center fielder of the future. He’s very much in that group. I wish him better luck than his predecessors had.

Fits right in with the Indians.

      Another left handed bat.

Maybe the A’s can pick him up if he doesn’t make the team.
