I don't think our M's can afford to be so picky. Our current OF choices consist of guys who stink and guys who stink really bad. Willingham's production could drop significantly and he would still be the offensive star of the lineup. Getting Fielder is a pipe dream. No way the ownership puts out that kind of money for a non-Japanese player.

I really hope the Twins lock this guy up. He's always good for above-average OPS+ numbers and should be able to contribute. They can let Cuddyer walk and take the picks. 2.5 years isn't too long to have him around. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to move him at the 2014 deadline to a winning team looking for a bat if they wanted to.

Well, as a Mariner fan that makes me happy for two reasons. 1.) From 2005 to 2010, Willingham posted a walk rate of 11.6% and a strikeout rate of 19.7%. Last year, he posted a walk rate of 9.9% and a strikeout rate of 26.6%, plus he is 33 years old. Definite signs of regression. 2.) There was no way they were going to be able to sign Willingham AND Fielder so maybe this implies some headway in negotiations between Seattle and Boras.
