Plus he was already making $4.7 mil on a two year deal. So I imagine he will sign for just under 3 mil a year. This seems unnecessary to me. He is a character guy, who has some versatility, and he showed signs of returning to his .300+ BA years, but he is not a good OBS dude, he has next to no power, cannot steal bases, and incomprehensibly is not a particularly good baserunner. Plus he is a below average defender at 2B. He possesses a strong arm, and has pretty good range in the OF, and can play all three positions, but he should be the LAST piece of the Cards roster if at all, and if the Cardinal management is choosing him over Punto, they have blundered again.
