Maybe Pujols thinks it’s worth his while not to have have to deal with an attorney, a tax accountant, an investment advisor, a PR firm/spokesperson, an agency to get him ads and speaking gigs, a middleman between him and the club, a. . . uh. . .pimp (he is an Icon/Lozano client), and whatever other services an agent and his agency provide (Bail bonds? Boras is connected with a training facility for off-season workouts, at least one other agency (I forget which. Maybe Jet/B.B. Abbott?) is as well.). And that it’s worth about $1.2M/year (yikes!) to him to have one contact person for this.

LOL. I could see the lovely and fetching Mrs. Diaz falling quickly for Zack, though he’s currently off her radar. Thank goodness too. Agent or not, I think he might just sweep her away.

(Oh, and the day the Bucs lay out the money for Greinke is the day I’m dancing in the streets. I’d welcome talent like that on the Bucs’ staff with open arms.)

There are a few players (Jamie Moyer is one of them) who negotiate their own contracts and pay an attorney to go over the details. It’s more cost efficient to pay an attorney for a few hours than to pay an agent 5% over the minimum if you don’t need the additional services that an agent can provide.

Taxes, for example, are a real pain for a ballplayer. They can owe taxes in two countries and up to 15 states and one province, but hiring a tax accountant on your own is still going to be more cost efficient.

If a ballplayer were to feel the need for some of the special services that Icon Sports Group/Dan Lozano allegedly provide, I’m sure he could do that more cost effectively as well.

Not sure of the nuances of the player/agent relationship. But if all the other players are doing it…expect Zack to do something else.
