I never said anything about his bat, but the Yankees have enough in house players to replace Swisher in a trade for a pitcher. Beltran would be a big upgrade offensively and could be spelled in right field with what the Yankees have in their system.

I think most teams are looking at him as a fallback option or will wait it out into January to see how the market shapes up for him. I would guess a few teams would jump in once the momentum picks up. We’ll see if a team can steal him for less than he is asking and on a short term contract. But because of his knees, he is looking for a long-term because it’s bound to give out.

I also think the Giants didn’t like him giving a parting shot saying the Giants need to add more bats before he signs. Obviously we need more offense, but Sabean didn’t like that line being drawn in the sand. I guess that’s why we only had short and general conversations with his agent.

If Colorado gets him, they will have to worry about too many players getting injured all at once. Cargo, Tulo have not been very durable considering how young they are. And a long term deal does not make sense for a NL team with a long contract for Beltran with no DH fallback.

I seem to remember reading a couple items about his moping and lack of leadership over the years so maybe teams feel he isn’t worth it when combined with his risky health. i agree with a prior post wondering why the Phillies haven’t jumped on him for a 1 year deal. He would seem to be the perfect guy to improve the teams overall hitting as well as not needing a commitment for more than 1 season. He would seem to fit into their “go for it all” short-term philosophy they have right now.

Swisher is a free agent after 2012, so if they can get a #3 starter for him, I say go for it. The Yankees have Justin Maxwell and Chris Dickerson at triple A and I know for sure Dickerson can Play right field and they can spot start Beltran and DH him most of the time. It’s real nice to have another switcher hitter , and Beltran will hit a lot of home runs in Yankee stadium.
