Josh Willingham will sign within the next 48 hours, agent Matt Sosnick told Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Sosnick indicated that Willingham has narrowed his choices down to three teams, two of which are believed to be the Twins and Indians.

Minnesota has had a three-year, $25 million offer on the table to Michael Cuddyer for a week now and has stayed in touch with Willingham as a potential fallback plan, but they may be forced to make a choice if Cuddyer doesn’t come to a decision today or tomorrow.

Willingham hit .246 with 29 homers in 136 games for the A’s this year, topping an .800 OPS for the sixth straight season.

UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal of says the Indians are now “out” on Willingham, leaving the Twins and perhaps the Rockies in the mix.

We still have to wait another 2 days in order to find out which team he will sign with! The tension! The uncertainty! The angst! The baseball world awaits the momentous decision.

this is as exciting as it gets for A’s fans too, watching all their players become former A’s

Beat me to it PC. There is only so much drama one man can take.

If the Indians sign him should we call him the next Richie Sexon or the next Russell Branyon? Either way… meh…

I hope the Twins sign him. Cuddy is a great guy and a decent player, but I think Willingham will do just as well, and the Twins would then get a couple of extra draft picks. Maybe the Twins need a few new faces in here to shake things up a little.

Mystery team time! There is always a mystery team. Sometimes the mystery team is a figment of the agent’s imagination, but some teams really do prefer to do business by stealth. We should know more in a day and a half. I can’t bear the uncertainty.
