Read this:

Hence the “hypocritical” nature if he defends his guy next season. Capishe?

Still not as effective as calling a ball/strike on the offending party. These guys can afford plenty of dollars. Let’s hit them where it really hurts…their stats.

Beckett would have an OBP against of something like .750 if the umpire called a ball after 12 seconds every time. Or imagine a hitter like Nomar having a trike called against him while he was futzing with his batting glove velcro.

Meh. To be hypocritical about it, he’d have to go out there and be slow himself. You can’t think any less of him for standing up for his (newfound) players.

How great another subjective call by the umpires, that always works so well.

The only way for this to work is for the league office to watch each game, and have a stop watch for the time between each pitch. If it goes more then “x” seconds then either the pitcher or batter is fined. Obvious exceptions if something else is happening between the pitches.

Whether it manages to change the behavior a slower players, I’ll still feel somewhat satisfied knowing it’s hurting their wallet somewhat.

Um, if he just gets tagged for that once a start it’s over 300k. If he gets tagged for every time he does it past the sixth one (and I interpret that as it could be for each PITCH he goes over the time limit on after that) it could be upwards of 100k per start.

I think that will get his attention.
