Will the Padres trade Rizzo? if they think he wants more than $ 7.50 an hour, he’s gone. This has to be the cheapest team in all of sport.

Tell hittfamily, Ray fan, keep dreaming. Padres are not thinking about the Rays, at all and they don’t need the pitching at this point. They want as many cheap, talented bats they can get. They have plenty in the bullpen and they got Bartlett last year so can it, it ain’t going to happen. You could see Rizzo was not ready last year and they intend to keep him in AAA to see if he can shorten the swing, and if not, out he goes. Alonso is staying put. What the heck does he mean, without any real need? They don’t have a left fielder and now can run the Guzman, Alonso switch, no problem. Don’t start overthinking the Rays, they have no part in this at all.

Between Rizzo, Guzman and now Alonso.. I have a feeling the Padres will be dealing 1 of them very soon.

You’re a year off on Alonso, he turns 25 in April of next year, not 26.

I think it makes perfect sense to acquire Alonso, and immediately move him. They know the Rays desperately need a 1b/DH, and have players at any position to move. He is a wild card. If they want young pitching, the Rays have it. If they want experienced cheap pitching, the Rays have it. If they want MLB an MLB outfielder in Guyer, the Rays have it. If they want SS Tim Beckham, the number 1 overall pick 3 years ago, the Rays have it. If they want bullpen help, the Rays have it.

They took Cincy’s top trade chip without any immediate need for him, and would be wise to capitalize on it and hold the Rays hostage.

Not going to happen. If anyone gets traded it’s Blanks. Rizzo can be wait and see and put Guzman in left, switch out with Alonso at first. You don’t get Alonso to trade him away, doesn’t make sense. Don’t need any more pitching prospects, there are plenty now in their system who they can pull up and see if they can replace Latos at some point.

I think Alonso will be traded. He is no longer a prospect. He will be 26 next season, and will be 33 by his first year not under team control. If you trade your #1 pitcher for unproven talent, you are clearly building for the future. Trading away pieces of your future for other pieces of your future doesn’t make much sense. Alonso should be traded for a top pitching prospect and another bat. If you are San Diego, 2013 should be the target, not 2012.

Wade Davis doesn’t make sense for the Rays unless the deal is for Alonso. The Rays need a first baseman today, not tomorrow. They would be better to aim for Alex Torres or Alex Cobb with maybe Brandon Guyer or if they want a first baseman this year, Russ Canzler.

Rizzos ceiling is a lot higher than Davis’s. Padres have erlin or Kelly waiting in the wings, they have no need for Davis
