Ron Washington’s life just got a lot more complicated. He’s damned if he wins and he’s damned if he looses. He may want to renegotiate his contract and make sure he’s making Joe Girardi or Charlie Manuel type money; because the pressure on him is going to be just as intense as what they experience.

They don’t get an option to review bids. The commissioner’s office tells them the highest bid amount, period. If they accept, the team that placed the highest bid gets 30 days to negotiate a contract. If the contract is accepted, the negotiating team cuts a check for the full amount right then and there.

I still don’t understand the logic in the Spam Fighters waiting until the deadline to announce. That seems like a pointlessly dickish move. A “we can make everyone wait for a week, so we’re going to…” Is there really a time-consuming issue here? I assume it was set as a week originally as communication options were more limited when the posting method was designed. Also, if they were going to review each option to chose the best fit for Yu, or perhaps the team he’s most likely sign with to ensure they get the posting fee, regardless of whether it was the highest, that might make sense.

BUT…they’ve made it clear from the start. They were taking the highest bid, period. So…why the wait? Again, it just seems like they’re doing it for no other reason than because they can.

Kinda makes it clear why Yu wants to get the heck out of his own counties league. Players are still chattel there.

For the record: Darvish (Dervish) is a Farsi word that indicates one who is a member of a religious order. Like a Monk. Most likely he was raised with both Buddhist and Sufi religious influences. Hope he goes to Texas for the irony, but Toronto is probably a more tolerant fit.

Not even ethnicity, really: Darvish is half Iranian. He is in no way, shape, or form like Igawa in build, or pitching style (in any sense: lefty v righty), or numbers. He’s much better. Whoever gets him will probably be pretty happy providing he can adjust to the culture change.

Blue Jays are known for their imitation of other birds and animals. Frankly I’ve heard them imitating cats, squirrels and owls. Not a bad articulation and communicatory repertoire.
As for “Ham-Fighters”, I’m with Jonny 5; this team name deserves to be in MLB. I envision a logo of a warthog with a big red slash through it. I’d go see a Ham-Fighter do anything.

Yu Darvish certainly isn’t a sure thing, but even going off of body type and “stuff”, he is not even the slightest bit comparable to Kei except of his race which really isn’t fair to him.

I guess one of the major calculations that go into something like this is how much does it cost to generate a comparable talent in house. First time against Big League hitters will be similar for the Jays as it might be for a groom before on his wedding night (in the old days.)
