Kevin & JBerardi- I was speaking in general. .319 OBP is a bad idea for a left fielder unless their defense is great.

I wouldn’t suggest that the Braves move Bourn off center or understand how to put a winning offense together, either.

Are you suggesting he supplant Bourn in center? If the Braves were to acquire him, it’s left field he’s ticketed for. Whether or not getting him is a good idea is another issue altogether, but the Braves wouldn’t be getting a centerfielder.

So did you get the sense that the Braves understand the importance of OBP when they signed Dan Uggla to a huge contract? Or when they thought Martin Pedro was a good fit for left field? Or when they were batting Heyward 93rd in the order or not at all? Or…

The Braves are almost the team people think the Giants are. Great ability to develop young talent, and a complete lack of understanding how to put together a winning offense.

The only way the O’s reject this deal is if Jurrjens is damaged goods. Otherwise, they are idiots. Wait a minute, I forgot we are talking about a team owned by the worst in MLB, Peter “keep it cheap” Angelos.

I’ve always felt the same way, he seems like the kind of guy who is either going to wake up one day and put it altogether and suddenly become a legitimate All-Star or he’s going to be one of those guys who is good, but not great and is always viewed as an underachiever and a bit of a disappointment because he never reached the next level despite seemingly having all the goods to get there.

It could go either way with this kid.

Frank Wren would offer Jair Jurrjens, Martin Prado and a pitching prospect for Adam Jones?

And the Orioles turned that down?

Let’s apply Occam’s razor.. do we think that two professionals, Frank Wren and Dan Duquette would BOTH be so incredibly wrong as to the value of their own players?

Or is it easier to believe that this Orioles beat writer is just giving us a half-truth, leaving out the other player(s) the Orioles would have had to include, and weren’t willing to part with?

I run hot and cold on Jones. His .319 OBP isn’t good, but he hits for a bit of power. He’s average to below average in center, but he’ll make some awesome catches. I just don’t know how I feel about him. He looks like he should be a star, but I don’t know if he will ever get there.

Seems like a bit of a pricey package for the Braves to pay, considering they’d almost certainly use him as a left fielder.
