From Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago comes word that the Cubs have signed free agent right-hander Manny Corpas to a one-year major league contract.

No word yet on the dollar amount.

Corpas missed all of the 2011 season after undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last September. Once viewed as the “closer of the future” in Colorado, he owns a cool 3.93 career ERA and registered a 47/22 K/BB ratio over 62 1/3 innings in 2010 before going under the knife.

The Cubs will hope that he can get back on track next season. He’s likely to serve as a middle reliever.

Look at those arms. Yet another “Inverted W” pitcher. Shoulder will go out next, unfortunatly.

Manny Corpas tried to hit on my girlfriend back when I used to live in Denver. She should have just gone with him, honestly. Not only is he richer than I’ll ever be, but I dumped her about two months later anyway. No point, just a story.

Solid middle reliever that should bounce back from injury. Glad Theo could get him before he signed with Pirates, Royals or A’s. That is who we compete with for players now days isn’t it?

So the Cubs have re-signed their 35 year old backup outfielder and signed a reliever who didn’t pitch last year. That’s a rebuild!

Did he get a no trade clause?
